How to clean, dry and put away an intimate product

The right routine depends on the product. Before reaching for a cleaner, find the manufacturer’s instructions for the model you own. A photograph, material name or shop description does not tell you the whole cleaning method.

Check the instructions first

Look for the approved cleaner, permitted water exposure and how to protect electrical parts. If those details are missing, contact the manufacturer. Do not assume that “water-resistant” means you can immerse an item, or that one silicone product can be cleaned in the same way as another.

Keep the manual where you can find it again. A bookmark on your own device or the paper instructions is enough; there is no need to register your product with Chick.

Clean after use

SH:24 advises cleaning after each use and checking for damage first. Where the instructions permit washing, use warm water and a mild, unscented soap. Follow the specified method for battery-operated parts, rather than submerging them.

Do not improvise with scented toiletries or a cleaning method intended for a different object. Boiling, dishwashers, alcohol and household disinfectants are not universal options. If a method is not in the product instructions, ask before trying it.

Dry fully before storage

SH:24 recommends drying without leaving fibres on the surface, then using the supplied dust bag if you have one. A clean, dry storage place helps keep dust off an item between uses. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions before reconnecting power.

The bathroom photograph on this site illustrates a cleaning setting. We do not know the contents of the pictured bottle and do not recommend it as a product cleaner.

Make the routine easy to repeat

Keep the instructions and the correct supplies accessible. A short note can say which cleaner to use, how to avoid electrical parts and where to leave the product to dry. Do not store an item while damp just to keep it out of sight.

If the routine is hard to manage in a shared home, choose a private time and a suitable drying place in advance. For the storage part of the routine, follow the care-drawer guide.

When cleaning is not the answer

Cleaning is not a repair for a damaged surface or an electrical fault. Pause and read when to stop using a product. This guide does not assess infection risk or provide treatment. For symptoms or a possible STI exposure, contact a clinician or sexual health service.

Use the exact model instructions as the starting point

Identify the contact materials and the parts that contain electronics, seams or openings. Read how the manufacturer says to clean, dry and store that exact item. Do not infer that an entire product can be submerged or boiled from a material word on the listing.

Before purchase, check whether that routine fits your space and time. For an item you own, damage or missing instructions is a reason to pause and ask the manufacturer. A material label or a higher price does not guarantee that a product will suit your body.
